Luke Chapter Five (The Bridegroom)

In this chapter, Jesus is taking a large step into becoming who we will all soon know him to be. After the excitements of being chased around, performing miracles, and teaching throughout the synagogues, Jesus is now gathering his first disciples. We see Simon Peter (who’s mother in law was just healed, the sons of Zebedee and partners of Simon Peter named James and John, and the Levi the tax collector.

The chapter ends with parable. This is one of the primary characteristics of Jesus teachings. Jesus indirect way of teaching opens the doors for many things. First, people would question and talk more frequently regarding the things he says because instead of being bossy and creating declarations as to show authority he proves his authority by providing real world examples and then following it up with the actions of healing along with the actions of living purely and beyond reproach. Sitting down with the disciples and being approached by the Pharisees is the first time we hear Jesus speak regarding himself as the bridegroom and his disciples as the bride. This would make for a great conversation to follow…

I hope you enjoy this tool and use it to grow in your intimate and infinite relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you.
